About Us

Since 1966, the Western Dairyland Head Start program has been preparing young children ages three to five to succeed in school and beyond in Buffalo, Eau Claire, Jackson, and Trempealeau counties. The Early Head Start program for infants, toddlers, and pregnant women was added in September 2015. Head Start and Early Head Start programs promote children's development through services that support early learning, health, and family well-being. Learn more about Head Start.

The Independence Head Start Center provides: - FREE preschool education for children ages 3-5 - Full day Monday - Thursday 4K education services in collaboration with the Independence School District - Full day Monday - Thursday 3yr old Head Start classroom serving Independence and Whitehall - Free nutritious meals and snacks prepared on site - Limited transportation available - Early Head Start socialization site for ages 0-3
